INCREASE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA

As a self-confessed twitter addict, (not expert!), and Facebook frequent flyer both personally and professionally, I thought I’d share some social media hints and tips I’ve discovered to maximize the return on investment for all your social media efforts!

  • CREATE GREAT CONTENT

Ensure your content is informative and entertaining. People love sharing and retweeting really good content. Once people engage you can start a conversation and create more traction. Be funny & break up informative and serious posts with humorous posts to entertain your audience. Be topical. Sharing your opinion on trending topics can build followers and humanize your brand personality.

  • BE CONSISTANT

Be as active as possible, regularly posting updates, sharing other users’ content, liking updates so that your audience see the value in following and engaging with you!

  • USE PICTURES & VIDEO

Add an eye catching photo, illustration or infographic – a picture speaks a thousand words! Use video to humanize your business and showcase your events or introduce your team.

  • BE PREPARED

Plan out your posts by scheduling content around the seasons, your events or news. Use scheduling tools like Hootsuite to improve efficiency and lists or news feeds to ensure you don’t miss out on great content.

  • ADVERTISE

Boost impressions by creating highly targeted AD campaigns or promoting your posts to make sure that people see your updates.

  • JOIN GROUPS

Engage in interesting discussions, ask questions and share your story. Browse through lists of groups on Facebook and LinkedIn to find the ones that are active and relevant and join the conversation. HOWEVER do not Link dump or continually self promote!

  • Use HASHTAGS

Using Hashtags correctly can increase your reach, get you more followers and more engagement. Use key words to summarize what your post is about.

  • JOIN TWITTER CHATS

Look for ‘Chats’ that have a topic that is relevant to your business or location, eg Herts Hour, note the time and date and make sure you’ve freed enough time to fully engage! Comment, share and join in the fun!

  • ASK FOR A RE-TWEET OR SHARE

By adding a call to action you will increase impressions and engagement.

  • RESPOND QUICKLY

Keep the conversation going by ensuring you are always quick to answer any personal messages, respond to comments etc. Manage controversial comments proactively and take the conversation offline.

  • ENGAGE WITH SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCERS WITH A LARGE FOLLOWING

Interact with them by joining the same chats or groups sharing their content, etc. Build a relationship and they may start sharing your content with their followers to drive brand awareness and build your audience.

  • MEASURE RESULTS

Use analytical tools to regularly evaluate your efforts. Do more of what works and ensure you increase engagement, drive web traffic and sales. Don’t be afraid to stop. Social media is not a ‘one size fits all’ solution and your efforts may be better invested elsewhere!

  • OUTSOURCE

Where budget allows or lack of in-house resource demands, consider investing in outsourced social media expertise for training, or a ‘Done with you’ or ‘Done for you’ service.  You can then focus on building your business.
